Look at me! Being a blogger! This is super new to me so I’m just going to ramble on for a bit about how and why I started this cookie biz.
I guess I’ll just start from the beginning. As you may know, I have two Daughters, Kara and Penny. K and P. Get it? KP Cookies. Anyways.. When Penny was turning 1 we were planning an “under the sea” themed birthday party for her. I really wanted to get some mermaid cookies to go along with her cake but couldn’t find what I was looking for in my area. I have always been a crafty person so I took myself over to Pinterest and started looking for tutorials on how to decorate cookies.
I found a few blogs about royal icing and sugar cookies and got to work. I found a mermaid tail cookie cutter on amazon and used circles to make sand dollars. I remember it taking me HOURS to complete about 20 cookies. It was so difficult and time consuming and these cookies were definitely not the prettiest ones I’ve ever made but I had so much fun!
After that party I started making cookies for different family events. I made some for my sisters engagement party, holidays, and random family dinners. Eventually some family members asked me about ordering specific cookies for different baby and bridal showers and I decided to make a business out it and KP Cookies was born.
From there things grew pretty organically. Customers would taste my cookies at one event and then place orders for their own. My small hobby was starting to look more like a real business.
At this time I was working a soul crushing office job. To put in nicely, this place just wasn’t the right fit for me. I wanted to be around to spend more time with my kids and thankfully was husband was super supportive, so I quit that job to stay at home full time. This was the best choice I ever made. I got to spend so much more time with my kids and really focus on growing my business. This was about 4 years ago now. Its been 4 years of learning new techniques, buying too many cookie cutters, and testing new recipes.
I’m so happy that I stumbled into into this career. It’s given me more freedom with my time. Amazing friends that I never would have met otherwise. And a way to express my creative side. I couldn’t have any of this without my supportive family and AMAZING customers. I grateful every day that this is what I get to do and I’m excited to start using this blog as a place to share all of it.
XO
